"The Drummer Boy of Shiloh" by
Ray Bradbury is an inspiring short story about a boy named Job who runs away to
be a drummer boy during the civil war. The night before the battle of Shiloh
Joby starts feeling like he should be here anymore. Then the general finds him
crying the same night and gives him a speech about how he is important and he
is apart of the army.
"The boy shut his eyes to hide inside
himself". The general says, "Here's a soldier crying before the
fight". The general realizes it's the drummer boy. The general kind-of
knew it was the drummer boy who was crying but he asked if he was a
soldier because he probably wanted to make Joby realize that he is important,
and that he is apart of the army. Being in am army is like being in a
family because they take care of each other. But they don't show their
emotion because a man isn't suppose to show emotion in those days.
In the end Joby feels more important and he
is apart of a family. The only reason he ran away from home because I think he
wanted to help and/or he needed a family and they were there when he needed
them. So at a really hard time anything can be a family if they take care of
each other.
