"Secrets, Lies and, Algebra" by Wendy
Litchman is an ok book about a girl named Tess and she loves math. But she has
other problems out side of school but she tries to solve them with math but it
doesn't turn out so good she finally figures out that not everything has a
solution in life. In this story the main focus is assuming.
Tess assumes about a person committing a sue aside.
Since Tess loves math so much she thinks everything needs a solution but sue
asides don’t always have solutions. One day at dinner Tess' mom disuses that
the day of the sue aside of the boss' wife her boss was acting really weird and
he always change the subject every time they talk about his wife, then she says
how she thinks he had something to do with the sue aside. After that she tells
her friends about it and tries to tell the police, she even goes to her mom's
boss' house to look at the "crime scene". I know she's curious
and everything but she's taking her mom's word for it and thinks that it's a
murder then she goes around acting crazy about a murder. Tess should've just
left it alone and just said what she thought about it then left it. But no she
had to go off and look inside of her mom's boss' house for "clues".
She was way off on that assume, what really happened was a sue aside, she
killed herself because her husband was out on a date with another person. Tess should’ve
assumed stuff especially about stuff that serious.
Tess assumes about a test to. Her history teacher
was giving her class a huge test and she thought these 3 kids who got 100% of
cheating because they where all wearing the same drawings of a bracelet on
their arm, and that the answers where written in code. Tess is just
being naive because she doesn’t like the boys that she thought were
cheating. If the boys were going to sit there a study and memorize a secret
code then they would be pretty stupid because they can be studying for a test
instead. Studying a secret code is a lot harder then studying for a test. But Tess
was write about one thing they were cheating but they stole a test and studied
that and the bracelets are just wish bracelets. Tess jumps too conclusions way
too fast. Just because the same 3 boys who got a 100% on their test are wear
the same bracelet doesn’t preclude that they where cheating like that.
All in all Tess shouldn’t just assume like that because you might be
going crazy for no reason. Didn’t her mom teach her the lesson about assuming? So
you shouldn’t assume about anything something’s in life you just need to let go
of if you don’t want the stress of it.
